A 21-year-old man was successfully rescued after he tumbled down an embankment inside Spencer Gorge Conservation Area Sunday afternoon.

In an email to The Spectator, assistant deputy fire chief Shawn De Jager said crews were called to “extricate someone who has fallen off one of the paths” in the area of Tew’s Falls.

Firefighters were called to Tew’s Falls inside of Spencer

Gorge Conservation Area for a rope rescue around 12:45 p.m., according to the department’s incident Twitter account.

Supt. Dave Thompson told The Spectator a 21-year-old man was transported to hospital in stable condition after “tumbling” down an embankment.

Another member of the service at the scene had told a Spectator photographer that the man had been hiking with a relative in the area when he fell off the “steep” edge of the trail. He was “conscious and alert” and was able to speak with paramedics over the phone.

Thompson said the man sustained a number of bumps and bruises consistent with a fall.

At least 10 fire trucks were dispatched to the rescue, which took approximately two hours and required at least 30 emergency responders.
