How about a ticket to Afghanistan? Should smokers pay for their own care?

This is a valid discussion point. Should smokers, drug users and I’ll even add alcohol abusers, pay for their health costs? However, it is a separate discussion and in no way relevant to the discussion regarding antivaxxers.

Anti-vaxxers have a free opportunity to receive a cure that will not only protect themselves, but more importantly, it will protect other vulnerable people around them. The issue here is to be unselfish and take the vaccine for the greater good of the population.

Smoking, drinking and drug use are extremely addictive and are very difficult habits to break without rehab assistance. A person cannot pass these afflictions on to others.

In contrast, the virus is highly contagious and affects everyone around you. A better comparison would be self indulgent hikers who keep falling off cliffs. They jump fences or wander off hiking trails to have a closer look at the waterfall. The result is costly rescue operations and then more fences around our waterfalls which affects everyone’s rights.
