Heavy rains force a “bypass” on average 12 times a year. With plant capacity cut by construction, it happened 34 times in 2020. We’re up to 17 incidents in 2021, including: Oct. 3-4: three bypasses, 48 million litres of untreated sewage, 305 million partly treated litres; Sept. 22: two bypasses, 312 million litres of partly treated sewage; Sept. 7: one bypass, 217 million litres of partly treated sewage.
