Just write it off

Jim Gillatly’s article (Nov. 24) on the deficit myth was right on the money (no pun intended). Smoke and mirrors. When Brian Mulroney was introducing the GST, they played a TV commercial showing a “loonie” with a quarter of it being cut away, supposedly to illustrate how much of our dollar was going to the “deficit.” There was a 1-800 number to call for information, and being fed up with yet another tax, I called and asked just who this deficit was owed to. I was told the Canadian public. So, we were getting taxed to pay ourselves back. Brilliant rip off.

Last week, the Ontario government projected a deficit in the area of $600 billion, most likely as an excuse to raise taxes. Here’s a suggestion Mr. Ford. Just write it off or declare bankruptcy like all the corporations do and start at zero. I personally am willing to let you off the hook for whatever amount is owed to me.
