Newsprint power

I submitted a letter the week of Nov. 21 so people would know that since COVID-19, the Hamilton Fire Department suspended the joint Winter Clothing Collection project with Compassion Ministries. I was hoping the letter would be published to let people know that on Nov. 27, they could drop items off at Parkview Church, 1120 West 5th.

Many people came and dropped off clothing, bedding and household items. When I asked them how they heard about the clothing blitz, they said: “I read the letter in The Spec.” Oh, the mighty power of the ink and newsprint! I would like to thank The Spec for printing my letter and all those who dropped off donations.

Compassion Ministries does not have an executive director and it does not receive government funding, with the exception of some COVID-19 grant money, and it certainly doesn’t have money for promotional expenses. Over the years it has helped thousands of individuals and families and with your help, we’ll be able to keep many people warm this winter.
