A witness to an attempted break and enter at a Stoney Creek business was seriously injured when he was allegedly intentionally hit by suspects fleeing in a vehicle.

The hit and run is somehow connected to a large commercial truck that crashed into MJ’s EZEE Clean car wash at 264 Highway 8 on Sunday at around 7 a.m.

Police have given few details about the incident that is being investigated by the homicide unit and saw Highway 8 closed in both directions between Green Road and Norwich Road twice on Sunday.

A media release lists the suspect vehicle as a dark-coloured, twodoor, Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. It says the suspects fled the scene and remained at large as of 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police did not say the number of suspects or give a description of them.

A commercial truck with a lifting arm was wedged into a bay of the car wash, with parts of it sticking into the roof.

Police did not say how it got there or how it is related to the attempted break and enter or hit and run. The release simply says they received multiple calls about the car wash crash.

It’s also not clear what business the suspects allegedly attempted to break into and enter.

“Hamilton Police are continuing to process the scene, speak to witnesses and review video,” stated the release. “Please expect police presence in the area for the next 48 hours.”

A stretch of Highway 8 was closed from 7 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. before being re-opened and then inexplicably closed again at 11:50 a.m.

Police are asking motorists and businesses to check their video cameras between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m., particularly for video of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Police say the homicide unit has taken over the investigation “due to the serious nature of the injuries.”
