Schreiner’s to-do list

While Mike Schreiner is free to run for the leadership of any political party he chooses, it seems there is only one way he could run for the Liberal leadership honourably.

This would be if he made it exceptionally clear that as Liberal leader he would bring forward legislation to change Ontario’s electoral system to one of proportional representation.

The Green Party’s platform calls for establishing a citizen’s assembly to study and provide binding recommendations for modernizing our electoral system. As leader of a Liberal government, he would not have to take this step, as the Liberals already did this in 2006. After extensive education and consultation, the assembly recommended a mixed member proportional system.

This would allow Mr. Schreiner to demonstrate that he does not consider himself the embodiment of the Green Party and its supporters and would ensure that his former party would receive seats in the legislature in proportion to its popular vote. Michael Blythe, Scotland
