Associate Vice President, Academic – Wendy Lawson

Wendy Lawson has been appointed to the role of Associate Vice President, Academic and will continue to serve as Dean, School of Health and Community Services.

Since joining Mohawk College in 2007, Wendy has made meaningful contributions in a number of different roles, including serving as Faculty and as an Associate Dean. These experiences will serve her well as she leads an integrated approach to academic planning and initiatives across the college. Wendy is well known for her work in curriculum reform, launching innovative programs and international strategies as well as overseeing medical technology initiatives. Her commitment to advancing the field of medical imaging extends beyond the college, as a sought-after researcher, professional development consultant and board member of various professional associations. She is also a graduate of Mohawk College, and was recognized as an Alumni of Distinction in 2022.

Wendy holds a Masters of Applied Science in Medical Imaging and an Honours Bachelor of Science in biology.

Wendy started in her new role this January.

Associate Vice President, International – Thea Laidman

Thea Laidman has been appointed to the role of Associate Vice President, International.

Thea brings 13 years of experience in international education. She has worked in both the private and public sectors, leading projects that support student and faculty mobility, institutional partnerships, business development, international student recruitment and the student experience. She previously served as Director International Recruitment at Mohawk College where she was responsible for setting the strategic vision and executing key activities required to advance international enrollment and business development priorities.

A passionate educator, Thea is an advocate for advancing intercultural awareness. She has lived in, worked in, or travelled to, more than 40 countries around the world, and was recently awarded a Hamilton Top 40 under 40 Business Achievement Award for her leadership in international education. In her new role, Thea will lead a newly unified International Education team focused on creating a shared vision and commitment to internationalization across the college.

Thea is currently pursuing her Masters in Higher Education Leadership and Administration with a specialization in International Education. Thea started in her new role March 9.
