Flapping gums on taxes

I see a lot of flapping of gums regarding the city’s property tax increase. You shall reap what you sow. In the past, the city has built huge swaths of lowdensity housing. The amount of roadway repairs, snow clearing, sewers, etc. increase quickly as the area to be served increases. In a dense city area the same 25 metres of street used for low density — two-four houses for about 10 people — can accommodate 200. The cost of servicing is same but there are a lot more folks paying for it. So high density areas of the city subsidize low density areas. So don’t blame the current politicians unless they’ve been there 20 or more years. The addition of yet more low density built area will only make matters worse. Ilpo Lehto, Hamilton
