The Hamilton Spectator

The opposite of Tommy D.

I lived through the years of no universal health care in Canada and it was not pleasant. A few years ago, The Spectator published the results of a nationwide poll on who is considered the most influential Canadian of our time. The no-contest winner was Tommy Douglas, the man who introduced the initial steps toward universal health care for all Canadians. We now have Doug Ford who is determined to dismantle Douglas’ hard work. Fortunately for Mr. Ford, we Canadians suffer a syndrome where after 72 hours the issue is all but forgotten.
