The Hamilton Kilty B’s won the opening game of their Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League conference final with the rival Caledonia Corvairs on Thursday.
The 6-3 game was closer than the score might indicate, with the host Kilty B’s actually trailing 3-2 early in the third period.
But then they scored four unanswered goals, including two emptynetters, to seal the win and an early lead in the best-of-seven series.
Justin Monteith had a five-point night for Hamilton, with a goal and four assists, while teammate Noah Vandenbrink chipped in two goals and a helper.
Calvin Crombie scored twice for Caledonia.
Game 2 is Saturday at 7 p.m., also at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
